Cancelling seat reservations

• Which reservations can be cancelled?

  Reservation cancellation applies to reservations made from 17.04.2024.

• Are all seat reservations purchased through an ÖBB sales channel refundable?

  All reservations purchased through ÖBB can be refunded.

• Which reservations are not refundable?

  Free reservations, such as for groups of 10 or more passengers, or 1st class standard tickets, where reservations are already included, are non-refundable. Online reservations (PDF downloads) that have already been purchased are also not eligible for reimbursement.

• How do I detect when making a booking whether a reservation is refundable?

  Cancellation information appears during the purchase process.

• I bought my reservation with a voucher. How do I get a refund?

  The refund will likewise be issued in the form of a voucher.

• I bought my reservation with a voucher for a free reservation. Can I get a refund for this reservation?

  Free reservations purchased with a reservation voucher are not refundable.

• How do I submit a claim for a refund?

  Online reservations that have not yet been purchased can be cancelled in the Ticket App or at shop.oebbtickets.at. All other reservations that can be cancelled can be refunded at a ticket desk or by using the contact form at oebb.at/kontakt.

• How do I get my money back?

  Generally speaking, refunds will be credited to the means of payment with which the purchase was made.
  If the sales staff at the ticket desk do not have enough coins or customers do not have enough change, refunds can also be effected by bank transfer or by issuing a voucher.

• I was unable to use my seat for various reasons. Can I get a refund for the reservation that I paid for at a later date?

  An unused reservation cannot be refunded if it is attributable to the passenger. A refund may be granted if ÖBB is at fault (e.g. train cancellation or unavailability of seats).

• Can reservations bought through sales partners also be cancelled?

  Yes, these reservations can also be cancelled. The cancellation must be sent to the relevant sales partner.

• How is the refund amount calculated when a discounted reservation is refunded?

  As a general rule, refunds are calculated to the nearest cent. If the sales staff at the counter do not have enough cent coins available or customers do not have enough change, the refund can also be paid by bank transfer or by issuing a voucher.

• Is it possible to change my reservation?

  It is not possible to change a reservation.

• Why is it not possible to cancel a seat reservation on the day of travel?

  Cancellations of reservations on the day of travel are not eligible for a refund. This is because of the lead time required to transfer the cancellations to the respective trains, especially when longer train journeys are involved. It is also intended to prevent trains travelling with reserved but unused seats.
